Musetti sees off Fery in straight sets at US Open opener

Lorenzo Musetti made a clean start to the US Open, beating Britain's Arthur Fery 6-3 6-3 7-5 in the first round without dropping a set. The Italian's serve was the foundation: he landed 60.8% of first deliveries and won 77.1% of those points, backed by seven aces to Fery's none. Just as telling was the gap behind the second ball, where Musetti took 67.7% of the points against 47.6% for his opponent, who put only 52.8% of first serves in and coughed up five double faults. Fery pushed hardest in the third, but Musetti closed it out at 7-5.
