Struff Cruises Past Ugo Carabelli in US Open First Round
Jan-Lennard Struff needed only three sets to see off Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-4 6-3 6-3 in the US Open first round, tightening his grip on the match as it went along. The German landed just 44.2 percent of his first serves, but he made them count, winning 88.2 percent of those points and 60.5 percent behind the second delivery, backed by 12 aces and only three double faults. Ugo Carabelli's serve never offered the same shelter: 13 double faults and just 40.4 percent of second-serve points won left the Argentine chasing. Struff moves into the second round on the back of a clean, efficient performance.
