Eva Lys eases past Knutson 6-3 6-3 in US Open first round
Eva Lys made a clean start to the US Open, beating Gabriela Andrea Knutson 6-3 6-3 in the first round without ever losing control of the scoreboard. The German's steadiness on serve was the difference: she landed 70.8 percent of her first deliveries and won 63.0 percent of those points, while also taking 52.6 percent behind her second ball despite four double faults. Knutson, by contrast, found only 55.8 percent of her first serves and won just 34.8 percent of second-serve points, a leak that repeatedly left her exposed. For Lys, it was an efficient passage into the second round.
