Bondar beats Havlickova 6-3 6-3 in US Open first round
Anna Bondar needed only two sets to move past Lucie Havlickova 6-3 6-3 in the US Open first round, controlling both sets from the front. The Hungarian's edge came from consistency rather than firepower: she landed 56.1% of her first serves to Havlickova's 46.9%, and although the Czech won a hefty 76.7% of her first-serve points, she simply did not put enough of them in play. Behind the second delivery Bondar was the steadier of the two, taking 48.3% against 44.1%, and her seven double faults never cost her the match. It was a clean start to her campaign in New York.
