Fritz Overpowers Blanch in Straight Sets at US Open Opener
Taylor Fritz needed just three efficient sets to see off fellow American Darwin Blanch 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the US Open first round. The serve told the story: Fritz landed 75.3% of his first deliveries and won 89.1% of those points, striking 14 aces against a single double fault. Blanch, by contrast, found only 44.4% of his first serves and coughed up nine double faults, offering little resistance in his own service games. In an all-American meeting, experience showed, and Fritz moved through his opener with his serve barely troubled.
