Cirstea routs Grabher 6-3 6-0 in US Open first round

Sorana Cirstea needed little more than an hour's worth of authority to sweep past Julia Grabher 6-3 6-0 in the US Open first round, closing with a bagel set that underlined how one-sided the contest had become. The Romanian's serve did the steadying work: 56.9% of her first deliveries landed, and she won 72.7% of those points, with three aces against three double faults. Grabher never found the same footing, putting just 49.1% of first serves in play, winning only half of them and a meagre 29.6% behind the second, while coughing up seven double faults. For Cirstea, it was as clean an opening as she could have asked for.
