McNally beats Koevermans 7-5 6-1 in US Open first round

Caty McNally came through a tight opening set before pulling away to beat Anouk Koevermans 7-5 6-1 in the first round of the US Open. The American's first delivery was the difference: she landed 64.8 percent of her first serves and won 76.1 percent of those points, while Koevermans found the court with only 56 percent of hers and took just 53.6 percent behind them. McNally's six double faults and 48 percent of second-serve points kept the opener close, but the Dutchwoman could not sustain the pressure once the second set began. It was a composed home-soil win in the main draw.
