Berrettini edges two tiebreaks, then routs Wawrinka in US Open opener

Matteo Berrettini needed two tiebreaks to subdue Stan Wawrinka in the US Open first round, and once he had them the match collapsed in his favour, 7-6 7-6 6-0. The Italian's serve was the difference throughout: 13 aces against three double faults, 64.2 percent of first serves in and 80.9 percent of those points won, numbers Wawrinka could not match. The Swiss landed only 54.4 percent of first serves, won 71.4 percent behind them and just 38.3 percent behind the second, while coughing up six double faults. Berrettini came through a taxing opener with his delivery intact.
