Swiatek cruises past Xiyu Wang 6-2 6-3 in US Open opener
Iga Swiatek needed little more than an hour's worth of control to open her US Open campaign, brushing aside China's Xiyu Wang 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. The Pole's serve was the platform: 74.5% of her first deliveries landed in, she won 80% of those points and a robust 66.7% behind her second, conceding just one double fault and never letting Wang settle into a rhythm on return. Wang, by contrast, found only 67.3% of her first serves and won 56.8% of them, a margin too thin against an opponent this precise. It was the kind of clean, low-risk start a title contender wants.
