Mensik cruises past Mochizuki in straight sets at US Open

Jakub Mensik opened his US Open campaign with a comfortable 6-1 6-4 7-5 win over Shintaro Mochizuki in the first round, tightening only in a third set that ran to 7-5. The serve told the story: the Czech struck 17 aces to his opponent's one and landed 62.1% of first deliveries, winning 72.9% of those points. Mochizuki, by contrast, found the box just 42.5% of the time and took only 58.8% of his first-serve points, with eight double faults compounding the problem. Mensik's six double faults barely mattered against such thin resistance, and he moves through without dropping a set.
