Townsend cruises past Chwalinska in US Open first round
Taylor Townsend needed just two sets to see off Maja Chwalinska 6-2 6-3 in the opening round of the US Open. The American's serve was the difference: she landed 60.5% of her first deliveries and won 84.6% of those points, striking six aces against a single double fault. Chwalinska found the box far more often, at 82.3%, but that accuracy brought little reward, as she won only 49.0% behind her first serve and a meagre 27.3% behind her second. With that platform, Townsend moved through her home Slam's first round in comfortable fashion.
