Gorzny outlasts Collignon in five-set US Open opener

Sebastian Gorzny needed every one of five sets to get past Belgium's Raphael Collignon in the US Open first round, edging a final-set tiebreak after the match swung back and forth from 3-6 6-3 3-6 6-3 7-6. Collignon was the sharper man behind his first ball, winning 71.0 percent of those points to Gorzny's 67.0, but he landed only 59.2 percent of them and coughed up 17 double faults against six from the winner. That gap in free points told over five sets, and it earned Gorzny a place in the second round at Flushing Meadows.
