Duckworth recovers from a set down to beat Arnaldi in four
James Duckworth dropped the opening set 7-5 but turned the US Open first-round match around, beating Matteo Arnaldi 5-7 6-3 6-2 7-6 to reach the second round. The Australian's serve was the difference: 16 aces to Arnaldi's five, 73.3% of first-serve points won and a solid 50% behind the second ball, even though only 54% of his first serves landed. Arnaldi matched him on first serve, winning 72.6% of those points, but took just 36% behind his second and coughed up seven double faults. Duckworth closed it out in a tiebreak after nearly three hours of grinding hard-court tennis.
