Tagger downs Korpatsch 6-0 7-6 in US Open first round
Lilli Tagger opened her US Open with a 6-0, 7-6 win over Tamara Korpatsch, running away with the first set before surviving a far tighter second that needed a tiebreak. The Austrian's serve gave her the platform: 67.7% of first serves landed and she won 63.6% of those points, with 57.1% behind the second ball and two aces. Korpatsch, by contrast, found only 61.3% of first serves and won 47.8% of those points and 48.3% on second serve, a losing balance on both deliveries. Both players struck three double faults. Tagger moves into the second round in New York.
