Alexandrova routs Kessler 6-2 6-2 in US Open first round
Ekaterina Alexandrova needed little more than an hour's worth of clean tennis to sweep past American wild card hope McCartney Kessler 6-2, 6-2 in the US Open first round. The Russian landed only 51% of her first serves but was close to untouchable when she did, winning 88% of those points and adding three aces against a single double fault. Kessler found the box far more often, at 70.6%, yet took just 55.6% of her first-serve points and a damaging 26.7% behind the second. That gap decided a match Alexandrova controlled from the outset, sending her through in straight sets.
