Faria outlasts Brooksby in five sets at US Open first round

The Portuguese served the bigger weapon and the bigger risk, striking 14 aces against 14 double faults with only 51.3% of first serves landing, yet he won 70.9% of the points behind them. Brooksby was the steadier server on paper, finding 64.8% first serves and just three doubles, but he won only 41.2% of his second-serve points, and that leak told in the decider. Faria came through in the fifth for a place in the second round.
