Iatcenko edges Zarazua in three sets at US Open first round

Polina Iatcenko recovered from a set down to beat Renata Zarazua 4-6 6-4 7-6 in the US Open first round, closing out a decider that went all the way to a tiebreak. The Russian's first serve was the difference when it landed: she won 69.7 percent of those points despite putting only 57.4 percent in play, and she held firm behind the second ball at 53.1 percent even while conceding six double faults. Zarazua was the steadier server by volume, finding 72.8 percent of first serves, but won just 58.2 percent behind them. Both players struck a single ace, and Iatcenko takes her place in the second round.
