Prizmic outlasts Shevchenko in five sets at US Open opener

Dino Prizmic survived a five-set opening-round battle at the US Open, recovering from a 2-6 first set to beat Alexandr Shevchenko 2-6 6-3 6-3 5-7 7-5. The Croatian's serve was the more productive one once he found the box: he landed 58.3 percent of first deliveries and won 75 percent of those points, against 53.2 percent and 69.3 percent for Shevchenko. Nine double faults were a constant risk, and they helped the Kazakh, who struck 14 aces to Prizmic's eight, force a decider. Prizmic still steadied at 5-5 in the fifth to reach the second round.
