Lehecka beats Carreno Busta in four sets at US Open opener
Jiri Lehecka came through in four sets, 6-1, 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, over Pablo Carreno Busta in the US Open first round, controlling the match either side of a brief Spanish revival. The Czech's serve was the difference: 10 aces to none, and 77.3% of points won behind a first delivery that landed only 55% of the time. Carreno Busta was far more accurate at 76.1% first serves in, but won just 58.4% of those points, and neither man was helped by seven double faults apiece. Lehecka's 46.3% on second serve edged the Spaniard's 42.9%, enough to carry him into the second round.
