Wu Yibing beats Adam Walton in straight sets at US Open
Wu Yibing came through a demanding straight-sets win over Adam Walton, 7-6 6-2 7-5, in the US Open first round, seizing the opening tie-break and then pulling clear before closing out a tight third set. Walton was the bigger server on raw output, striking 15 aces to Wu's nine and landing 65.0 percent of first serves, but the margin sat behind the first ball: the Australian won just 40.0 percent of second-serve points, against 58.1 percent for Wu. The Chinese player also won 82.0 percent behind his first delivery, and five double faults compounded Walton's afternoon. Wu moved into the second round.
