Parry outlasts Mertens in three sets for Monterrey title
Diane Parry survived a wild final in Monterrey, beating Elise Mertens 6-4 0-6 6-3 after being blown off the court in the second set. The Frenchwoman did it the hard way behind a shaky delivery, landing just 54.7 percent of her first serves and coughing up 10 double faults, though six aces and 67.2 percent of first-serve points won kept her afloat. Mertens was the cleaner server, hitting seven aces to six double faults and winning 78.0 percent behind her first ball, but her second serve yielded only 37.9 percent. Parry claimed the trophy.
