Jones beats Garland 6-4 6-1 in US Open qualifying final

Francesca Jones came through the US Open qualifying final in straight sets, edging a competitive opener 6-4 before running away with the second 6-1. The Briton's serve was close to untouchable: she landed 68.4 percent of first deliveries and won 92.3 percent of those points, adding 66.7 percent behind her second ball with only two double faults. Joanna Garland struck eight aces but found just 58.9 percent of first serves, and her four double faults and 34.8 percent of second-serve points won left her exposed. For Jones, the win secured a place in the main draw.
