Gaston recovers from a set down to beat Smith in US Open qualifying

Hugo Gaston lost the opening set 1-6 but turned the US Open qualifying final around, taking the next two 6-4, 6-2 to complete the comeback against Colton Smith. The swing came behind the Frenchman's second serve, on which he won 63.6 percent of points, while Smith managed only 39.3 percent and coughed up five double faults to Gaston's one. On first delivery the two were close, Smith winning 71.4 percent to Gaston's 70.3 with almost identical first-serve percentages of 63.6 and 62.7. The result carried Gaston into the main draw in New York.
