Basavareddy routs Gea 6-3 6-1 to reach US Open main draw

Nishesh Basavareddy needed only two efficient sets to beat Arthur Gea 6-3 6-1 in the final round of US Open qualifying, tightening his grip as the match went on. Neither man found much rhythm on first serve — the American landed just 49.4 percent, the Frenchman 48.0 — but Basavareddy did far more with the balls he did put in, winning 68.4 percent of his first-serve points to Gea's 58.3. He also edged the second-serve exchanges 51.3 to 50.0, and four aces offset his four double faults. The reward was a place in the main draw.
