Bartunkova edges Vidmanova in three sets in Monterrey

Nikola Bartunkova came through an all-Czech quarterfinal in Monterrey, beating Darja Vidmanova 6-4 6-7 6-3 after letting a one-set lead slip in a second-set tiebreak. The decisive gap was on second serve: Bartunkova won 50.8 percent of those points, while Vidmanova managed only 32.6 percent behind hers. That cushion mattered because Bartunkova landed just 49.1 percent of her first serves and coughed up eight double faults, though she struck six aces and won 73.7 percent behind her first delivery. Vidmanova's cleaner numbers, 57.4 percent first serves in and 77.6 percent won, were not enough. Bartunkova reached the semifinals.
