Stefanini beats Pareja 6-4 6-3 to reach US Open main draw
Lucrezia Stefanini came through the US Open qualifying final in straight sets, downing American Julieta Pareja 6-4 6-3 without ever letting the match slip into a decider. The Italian's control began with her first delivery, landed at 80.6 percent, and she backed it up by winning 50 percent of her second-serve points while conceding just two double faults. Pareja, by contrast, found only 73.6 percent of first serves and won a meagre 35.7 percent behind her second, a vulnerability Stefanini kept probing. Three double faults added to the American's trouble. For Stefanini, it meant a place in the main draw.
