Parks recovers from a set down to beat Chwalinska in Monterrey
Alycia Parks dropped the opening set 3-6 but turned the match around completely, taking the next two 6-2 6-2 to reach the Monterrey quarterfinals. The American's serve was erratic yet decisive: only 46.2% of her first serves landed and she coughed up seven double faults, but she struck 10 aces and won 73.0% of first-serve points, with a solid 53.5% behind the second ball. Maja Chwalinska was far tidier, landing 67.2% of first serves with just three double faults, yet won only 65.9% of those points and could not match the raw power. Parks moved on with a comeback built on free points.
