Kubka Serves Past Bassols 6-3 6-2 in US Open Qualifying
Martyna Kubka needed just two sets to reach the final round of US Open qualifying, seeing off Spain's Marta Bassols 6-3, 6-2 in a match shaped almost entirely by the Pole's serve. Kubka struck 11 aces without a single double fault, landed 66.1 percent of her first deliveries and won 70.7 percent of those points, backing it up with 66.7 percent behind her second ball. Bassols, by contrast, found only 52.3 percent of first serves and coughed up four double faults, winning 60.9 percent on first and 57.1 percent on second. For Kubka, it was a clean, low-risk performance on hard court.
