Zidansek beats Maristany 7-5 6-3 in US Open qualifying semis
Tamara Zidansek came through a tight opening set before pulling clear, beating Maristany G. 7-5, 6-3 in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The Slovenian's edge came from the balance of her serve: she landed only 59.3 percent of first deliveries but won 59.4 percent of those points and an almost identical 59.1 percent behind her second, giving her opponent nothing to attack. Maristany found the court more often, at 67.1 percent, yet won just 51.0 percent of first-serve points and 40.0 percent on second, and her five aces were offset by three double faults. The win carried Zidansek into the final qualifying round.
