Arthur Fery controlled his Round of 16 match at Winston-Salem, seeing off Mees Rottgering 6-3 6-3 in straight sets. The Briton's serve did the steady work: with 55.2% of first serves landed, he won 71.9% of those points and, crucially, 57.7% behind his second delivery, conceding just one double fault. Rottgering matched him on first-serve accuracy at 54.4% but won only 64.9% of those points and 48.4% behind the second, while five double faults kept handing back the initiative.
