Gea edges past Chidekh in three sets in US Open qualifying

Arthur Gea came through an all-French battle in the US Open qualifying semifinals, taking the opening set 6-4, letting a second-set tie-break slip away, then pulling clear 6-2 in the decider. His serve was erratic but potent: only 51.4% of first serves landed, yet he won 74.1% of those points and struck eight aces against seven double faults. Clement Chidekh was the tidier server, finding 67.6% of first deliveries with just two doubles, but he won only 62.3% behind the first ball and 48.5% behind the second. Gea moved into the final qualifying round.
