Valdmannova rallies past Sasnovich in US Open qualifying
Vendula Valdmannova dropped the opening set but turned the match around completely, beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich 5-7 6-3 6-1 in the final round of US Open qualifying. The Belarusian's serve looked the more dangerous early, with 11 aces to the Czech's four and a higher first-serve percentage of 66.4 to 61.9, but the rest of the numbers told a different story. Sasnovich won just 35.1 per cent of her second-serve points against 46.5 for Valdmannova, and with seven double faults apiece, that gap decided the later sets. Valdmannova takes her place in the main draw.
