Kalieva rallies past Costoulas to reach US Open qualifying final
Elvina Kalieva recovered from a set down to beat Sofia Costoulas 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The American's serve steadied the comeback: she landed 64.9 percent of her first deliveries and won 69.8 percent of those points, striking five aces against three double faults. Costoulas, by contrast, found the court with only 46.1 percent of her first serves, and although she won 65.9 percent of those points and 50 percent behind her second, the extra pressure told over three sets. Kalieva moved into the final qualifying round on home soil.
