Liutova edges Radivojevic in three sets in US Open qualifying
Kristina Liutova came through a three-set battle against Lola Radivojevic, 6-2 5-7 6-4, to win her US Open qualifying semifinal. The Russian's control of the baseline began on serve: she landed 71.6 percent of her first deliveries and won 73 percent of those points, a platform Radivojevic could not match with 57.6 percent first serves in and 62.3 percent of those points won. The Serb hit four aces to Liutova's one and was the steadier of the two behind her second ball, winning 41 percent to 32, enough to force a decider but not to stop her. Liutova moves within one win of the main draw.
