Schoolkate edges Hong 6-4 7-6 in US Open qualifying semifinal
Tristan Schoolkate came through a tight straight-setter against Seong Chan Hong, 6-4 7-6, to move a win from the US Open main draw. The Australian's serve made the difference in the fine margins: he struck five aces to Hong's one and dropped just two double faults against his opponent's four. With both men landing barely more than half their first serves, Schoolkate won 66.7 percent of those points to Hong's 55.6, and edged ahead on second serve too, both men taking 57.9 percent. The second set went to a tiebreak, but Schoolkate never lost his footing.
