Garland downs Hon 6-3 6-4 in US Open qualifying semifinals

Joanna Garland kept control from start to finish, beating Priscilla Hon 6-3 6-4 to move through the US Open qualifying semifinals. The Taiwanese player's edge came from consistency on delivery: she landed 63.6% of her first serves and won 71.4% of those points, while Hon found the court with only 47.6% of hers. Hon was punishing when she did land the first ball, taking 80.0% of those points, but on second serve the two were near identical at 46.4% for Garland and 45.5% for the Australian, with four double faults apiece. The straight-sets win carried Garland to the final qualifying hurdle.
