Bandecchi beats Hruncakova 6-3 6-2 in US Open qualifying
Susan Bandecchi controlled a straight-sets win over Viktoria Hruncakova, 6-3 6-2, in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The Swiss was the steadier server throughout, landing 55.4 percent of her first deliveries and winning 74.2 percent of those points, with just two double faults. Crucially, she was almost as solid behind her second ball, taking 68 percent of those points, while Hruncakova won only 28.6 percent of hers and coughed up nine double faults. The Slovak's nine aces and 79.3 percent haul on first serve counted for little on a 50.9 percent first-serve rate. Bandecchi moved a step from the main draw.
