Lazaro Garcia rallies past Hontama in US Open qualifying
Andrea Lazaro Garcia came from a set down to beat Mai Hontama 5-7 7-6 6-1 in the US Open qualifying semifinals, turning a tight opening hour into a one-sided finish. The Spaniard's second serve was the difference: she won 54.5 percent of those points, while Hontama managed just 41.9 percent behind hers and coughed up six double faults to Lazaro Garcia's two. Both players struck three aces, and Hontama's edge on first-serve points won, 56.5 percent to 53.3, counted for little once the third set turned. The win carried Lazaro Garcia into the final qualifying round in New York.
