Van De Zandschulp routs Darderi 6-1 6-0 in Winston-Salem
Botic Van De Zandschulp needed barely an hour's worth of resistance to sweep past Luciano Darderi 6-1 6-0 in the Winston-Salem round of 16, a rout from the opening game. The Dutchman's serve did the damage: 12 aces and 85.7 percent of points won behind a first delivery that landed 56 percent of the time, enough cushion to absorb five double faults and a modest 40.9 percent return on second serves. Darderi, by contrast, hit no aces, made just half his first serves and won only 55 percent of those points, with 30 percent on second serve. It was as complete a performance as Van De Zandschulp could have asked for.
