Buse edges Altmaier 7-6 7-5 to reach Winston-Salem quarter-finals
Ignacio Buse came through one of the tighter matches of the Winston-Salem round of 16, seeing off Daniel Altmaier 7-6 7-5 without dropping a set. The Peruvian's edge came on first serve, where he won 78.4 percent of his points to Altmaier's 72.2, even though the German landed more of them, 65.1 percent to 60. Behind the second delivery the numbers tilted the other way, Altmaier taking 48.3 percent against Buse's 44.1, and each man struck five aces, Buse conceding two double faults to his opponent's three. It was a composed hold-heavy performance that carried Buse into the quarter-finals.
