Basavareddy beats Mikrut 6-2 6-4 in US Open qualifying
Nishesh Basavareddy moved through the US Open qualifying semifinals with a controlled 6-2 6-4 win over Luka Mikrut, never letting the Croatian settle. The American's edge came behind his own delivery: he landed only 55.3 percent of first serves but won 84.6 percent of those points, and even his second ball held up, yielding 66.7 percent. Mikrut, by contrast, won just 61.5 percent behind his first serve and split his second-serve points at 50 percent, while six double faults undid the good work of his four aces. The result carried Basavareddy to the final qualifying round in New York.
