Svrcina beats Galarneau 7-6 6-2 in US Open qualifying
Dalibor Svrcina came through a tense opener and then pulled clear, beating Alexis Galarneau 7-6, 6-2 in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The first set hinged on the tiebreak, where the Czech's extra firepower told: he struck four aces to Galarneau's one and won 65.2% of his first-serve points, against just 46.3% for the Canadian. Galarneau landed more first serves, 64.1% to 59.0%, but could not turn that accuracy into free points, and Svrcina's six double faults never cost him the match. The Czech moved a win away from the main draw.
