McDonald edges Seyboth Wild 6-4 6-4 in US Open qualifying
Mackenzie McDonald came through a tight straight-setter at US Open qualifying, beating Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-4 6-4 to reach the final round. The margin lived on serve: McDonald landed 61% of first deliveries and won 83.3% of those points, against 74.3% for the Brazilian, and a single break in each set was all the American needed. Behind the second ball the gap widened too, McDonald taking 47.8% of those points to Seyboth Wild's 37.5%. Nine aces from the loser could not offset three double faults conceded by neither man in bulk, with McDonald hitting seven of his own and staying steady throughout.
