Knutson routs Salkova 6-3 6-1 in US Open qualifying semifinal
Gabriela Andrea Knutson controlled her US Open qualifying semifinal from the outset, beating Dominika Salkova 6-3, 6-1 in a match that grew more one-sided as it went on. The serve told the story: Knutson landed 57.7% of her first deliveries and won 86.7% of those points, striking six aces to none for her Czech opponent. Salkova's first serve, in at a similar 58.8%, brought back only 63.3%, and behind the second she won just 19.0% of points while coughing up nine double faults. Knutson's own five double faults never cost her, and the win carried her to the final qualifying round.
