Koevermans downs Klimovicova 6-3 7-5 in US Open qualifying
Anouk Koevermans came through a straight-sets win over Linda Klimovicova, 6-3 7-5, to advance from the US Open qualifying semifinals. The Dutchwoman's serve did the heavy lifting: she landed 55.6 percent of first deliveries and won 82.9 percent of those points, backed by eight aces to none for her opponent. Klimovicova found the first-serve box on only 44.3 percent of attempts and won just 44.1 percent behind the second, a gap that told when Koevermans edged ahead from 5-5 in the second set. Five double faults were the only blemish on an otherwise commanding hard-court performance.
