Robin Montgomery came through a testing opening set before pulling clear to beat Jeline Vandromme 7-5, 6-3 in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The American's first delivery was the difference: she landed 69.8 percent of them and won 81.8 percent of those points, with four aces offsetting her four double faults. Vandromme was the steadier server in terms of accuracy, finding 75 percent of first serves and hitting only one double fault, but she won just 66.7 percent behind the first ball and 35.3 percent behind the second. Montgomery moved a win from the main draw.
