Iatcenko edges Bronzetti in three sets in US Open qualifying

Polina Iatcenko came through a three-set fight with Lucia Bronzetti, 6-2 3-6 6-3, to move on in the US Open qualifying semifinals. The Russian's serve was the streakier of the two but also the more punishing: she landed only 55.4 percent of first deliveries and coughed up five double faults, yet won 70.7 percent of the points behind that first ball and 51.5 percent on the second. Bronzetti was the tidier server, with five aces, a single double fault and 68 percent first serves in, but she took just 60.8 percent of those points and 45.8 percent behind her second. That margin decided a match Iatcenko controlled at the start and finish.
