Fearnley edges Pavlovic in three sets in US Open qualifying

Jacob Fearnley came through a three-set battle against Luka Pavlovic 6-4 6-7 6-4 to reach the final round of US Open qualifying. The Briton's first serve was the difference: he landed 63.4 percent of them and won 78.0 percent of those points, against 72.1 percent for Pavlovic. The Frenchman struck 11 aces to Fearnley's two, but won only 42.5 percent behind his second delivery, while Fearnley held at 50.0 percent. Nine double faults from Fearnley kept the match alive, yet he steadied when it mattered to close out the decider and stay on course for the main draw.
