Rodionov beats Ferreira Silva in three to reach US Open qualifying final
Jurij Rodionov came through a three-set swing in the US Open qualifying semifinals, beating Frederico Ferreira Silva 6-2 3-6 6-1 after losing his grip on the middle set. The Austrian's serve was the difference: 10 aces against just one double fault, and although only 55.0% of his first deliveries landed, he won 68.2% of those points and a healthy 58.3% behind the second ball. Ferreira Silva served at a similar 54.5% but converted far less, taking 57.1% of first-serve points and only 51.4% on second. That margin decided a lopsided decider and carried Rodionov into the qualifying final.
