Parry edges Oliynykova in straight sets in Monterrey last 16
Diane Parry reached the Monterrey quarterfinals with a 6-4 7-6 win over Oleksandra Oliynykova, a straight-sets result that was far tighter than it looked, the second set going all the way to a tiebreak. The Frenchwoman's edge came behind her first delivery, where she won 57.5 percent of points to Oliynykova's 50.0, enough to separate two players who landed almost identical first-serve rates of 59.7 and 58.7 percent. Neither found much comfort on the second ball, Parry winning 40.7 percent and the Ukrainian 41.9, and Parry's three double faults to one kept the margins slim. On a hard court that rewarded her steadiness, it was a valuable win.
